Maple Magic 2019

Maple Magic 2019

Mississauga's favourite maple tradition returns to the Bradley Museum for March Break.

The following activities run daily from 12 pm to 4 pm:

Maple Sap Line Tours: Learn how sap is collected from maple trees and turned into maple syrup! Originally taught to early settlers by Anishinaabe peoples, maple sugaring is an important tradition to both First Nations and non-indigenous communities. Take the tour with an interpreter to try out hands-on sap harvesting activities such a drilling into a tree log. Visitors will also be able to watch historic demonstrations of the maple sugaring process including sap boiled over a fire to make syrup, and sap prepared in hollowed out logs to make sugar and taffy following Anishinaabe practices. Guided tours of the Maple Sap Line run every 20 minutes from 12:20pm until 3:00pm.

Maple Taffy Demonstrations: Sample fresh maple taffy made right before your eyes! Suggested donation of $2 per sample.

Historic House Tours: How was maple used as an ingredient in the kitchens of early settlers? Visit the Bradley House for historic cooking demonstrations and maple sugar samples.

Sugar Shack: Enjoy freshly made pancakes and real Canadian maple syrup in the Sugar Shack.

Petting Zoo: The friendly farm animals of Mane Attractions are returning this year for the full event. Learn about farm life and see what it's like to hand-feed sheep, goats, bunnies, and more!

Maple Magic Gift Shop: New this year! Ontario maple syrup producer, Voisin's Maple Products, joins Maple Magic. Bringing a wide selection of their family-made maple treats available for sale in the Gift Shop, Voisin's has all your favourites in store.

Imagination Playground: Get creative and make your own place to play! Kids are sure to love these big blue blocks that they can move, play on and build with in the Barn. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times.

Spring is Coming: Seed Planting Activity: The Barn will be set up with a planting station for visitors to help us get our garden ready for spring by planting wildflower seeds in compostable plant pots. Not only are they beautiful, but wildflowers are essential to supporting healthy pollinator populations. In return, each participant gets to take home potted seeds of their own.

Enchanted Forest: Make your own maple magic upstairs in the Log Cabin. Neon tape, fabric and paper will be on hand for participants to craft a large-scale forest directly on the cabin walls. Add trees, flowers, deer, birds and any other wildlife - real or enchanted - that you want. With the flick of a switch, we'll make the forest glow under blacklight LEDs, making this experience truly magical.

Creation Station: Get inspired at the Creation Station in the Anchorage! Featuring different special guests each day, there will also be hands-on creative activities for you to make your own personalized mark on Maple Magic.

Under 5 Play Area: Back by popular demand, a sensory play space designed for kids under 5 to explore textures, sounds and smells. Located in the Anchorage, this space is accessible for strollers. Children must be supervised by an adult at all time.

Milky Way: Meet traveling dairy cow, Milky Way, in the barn and learn about milking and animal husbandry with an educator from the Dairy Farmers of Ontario.
